Welcome to Brazos Boat Works

Since I"m a boat designer/builder rather than a website guru, this site (and several others) will probably always be under construction.  In real life I provide technical services (fancy way of saying electrical and mechanical maintenance) to some specialized equipment in a box manufacturing facility--primarily on the (giant) printing press side in the engraving department.  My goal is to provide comprehensive plans and instructions for building certain small paddled craft.  I've been designing and building boats for over 50 years now.  During that time I've developed some skill in the S&G, modified cold molding, lapstrake, and strip building methods.  My designs will generally reflect these methods--mostly S&G and strip.   With retirement looming in a few years I've decided to devote myself to sharing what I've learned over the years.  Because of the time I have to devote to my regular job I normally don't custom build boats for individuals.  When I do it's with the understanding that it takes as long as it takes.  I prefer to develop new designs and/or build prototypes.  The prototypes are always for sale after exhaustive testing to see that the design works properly.  When I retire--in around 3 years--that may change.  Anyway, I'm going to enjoy this.  I hope this will be a service that some of you can take advantage of.  If not...I don't care.  At least I'll still be building and paddling boats.  Have fun.

I am in the process of changing old designs into a format suitable for distribution to the public.   In the meantime you can see a few of the boats I've built, along with a lot of other stuff, at my personal website:  www.texaspaddler.com

2009 will see a full commitment from me in getting this site up and running.  For the time being you can contact me for any questions or comments at:  gerald@brazosboatworks.com

Thanks....Gerald Kennedy
